MG by the Sea

Twenty-two years after the first edition, this year's 10th edition of this international gathering took place, organized by MG CAR CLUB d'Italia Registro Italiano MG, to celebrate its 40th anniversary, bringing participants from all over Europe to Italy. 125 MGs produced between 1932 and 2004 were present.

It is worth adding that in Italy this is the only meeting that manages to concentrate so many MGs and for the duration of a week.This rally continues to attract so many participants because it takes place at a time of year when the weather is favorable, both due to the lack of rain and the ideal temperature for these cars. In short, a rally has been created in a part of Italy steeped in history and enchanting landscapes, where you can spend a holiday in a MG. Since 1992, the rally's central location has been the hospitable Gabicce Mare. With its hotels and residents, it has always welcomed participants from all over Europe and fascinated by so many rare vehicles. Each day, the participants head to a different destination, with the security of the Traffic Police, whose men escort the long convoy of vehicles from start to finish.
The distance covered during the week was 800 km. Among the various itineraries, we mentioned a visit to the Eastern Gothic Line Museum, the Fonte Avellana Hermitage, built at the end of the 10th century at 700 meters above sea level, and the Terra del Sole (Castrocaro Terme), built in 1564 for Cosimo I de' Medici as an ideal Renaissance city. Within the fortified walls, we stopped at the Castle of the Artillery Captain. The following day, the group reached Villagrande di Montecopiolo, at 915 meters above sea level, with the fortress of Count Antonio, founder of the famous Montefeltro family, in the Sasso Simone and Simoncello Natural Park, which in winter is one of the most welcoming and well-equipped ski resorts in the region. Another very interesting destination was Piobbico, with its 13th-century Brancaleoni Castle, later transformed into a splendid Renaissance residence at the end of the 16th century. The encounter with the "Club Internazionale dei Brutti," founded in 1879 to marry off the town's spinsters, was a delightful experience. Their band followed the participants through the streets of the small town, playing popular songs, bringing a healthy dose of cheer. The final leg of the tour took them to Novafeltria, passing through Sogliano al Rubicone, home of "formaggio di fossa," a now very famous DOP cheese, offered to participants in a variety of ways. Many activities also took place after dinner, including a mini cruise with a food and wine tasting, sailing offshore to admire the lights of the coastal towns, a timed MG skill test on the Misano Adriatico kart circuit, and on Saturday evening, a concert by the "Fisiorchestra di Castelfidardo," which first performed well-known classical arias and then a mix of famous European tunes. This was the setting for the awards ceremony, with many participants receiving recognition. In the timed skill test, first place went to Max Bottoli, second to Umberto Righi, and third to John Van der Boom. Other prizes went to the oldest and rarest cars. The most represented countries were the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, the United Kingdom, and France, followed by the others. The most represented model was the MGA (41 cars), followed by the MGB (29).
Given the success and requests made by participants, the next meeting will take place in 2016.
