Greetings Lunch - Ariccia, December 11, 2010
Punctual as always, the appointment with the traditional Christmas Lunch of the Lazio Regional Centre has returned, which this year has taken on an even more special meaning as, in addition to celebrating Christmas which is now upon us, the Members of our Region are
They are gathered in large numbers to celebrate, together with their cars, inseparable companions of so many wonderful adventures, the grand resumption of the Club's activities, culminating with the recent success of the 2010 Settecolli Trophy in Alto Molise.
At the meeting point, in the main square of Ariccia, framed between the very famous bridge, the imposing silhouette of Palazzo Chigi and the baroque facade of the mother church, among the colourful stalls of a Christmas market and under the astonished gaze of a
A young married couple preparing to celebrate their wedding, as well as the wedding guests, showed up in parade more than twenty cars, almost all MG, with the prestigious exception of the flaming Jaguar E-type roadster of Roberto M. and, above all, the Alfa Romeo 2500 6C Superleggera Aerlux driven by his friend Gianni T., who came especially from Treviso so as not to miss the meeting.
Meanwhile the cars were making a fine show of themselves in the churchyard, gentlemen drivers and navigators whiled away the time waiting for lunch by biting into tasty sandwiches with porchetta generously washed down with Romanella, basking in the warm rays of the sun.
a clear day but with decidedly wintery temperatures.
Having temporarily satisfied their appetite, the noisy caravan set off again towards the final destination: the “Il Borgo” farmhouse, only a few kilometres away but reached with difficulty by many due to the crossings of the towns of Genzano and Cecchina which made
numerous crews lost contact, forcing them to frantically search for their destination along the Via Nettunense.
Once the lines had closed, those lost along the road had been gathered, and the group had been reunited, arriving in the parking lot of the large farmhouse restored calm and serenity to everyone.
Before lunch, the official presentation of the 2010 Settecolli Trophy video, masterfully created by the happy couple Massimo and Galina V.,
which received wide acclaim and warm applause of appreciation, which earned the director the gift of a tie and the "camerawoman" a kiss from the new Regional Director, a truly very partial compensation for the splendid work they did for the Club and for all the Members participating in the gathering.
At the end of the screening, the President offered his greetings and best wishes, along with my personal thanks to all those present. I also invited everyone to participate in the Regional Center's upcoming initiatives, many of which are already in the pipeline for 2011, first and foremost the Settecolli Trophy, scheduled for June 17-19 in Alta Ciociaria and already in an advanced stage of definition.
The subsequent banquet, held in an atmosphere of extraordinary friendship and great joy (the likes of which had not been seen in a long time), perhaps also thanks to the contribution of the excellent cuisine and an equally appreciated wine, concluded with the unexpected visit of Bruno and Eugenia C., long-standing members and formerly among the Group's most active. They had been absent for the last few years, during which their black MGB enjoyed a well-deserved rest and some touch-ups. They did not want to miss the "downstairs" gathering, intending to honor all participants with their very personal greetings in Sardinian (with a facing Italian translation) transcribed on original parchment papers.
After exchanging the ritual greetings and renewing Christmas wishes, the honking MGs headed home one by one, under the setting sun, while their crews were already anticipating the joy of their next meeting.
