Custom-built Show - Rome Fair, April 21-22, 2012

This year, we wanted to characterize our participation in the sixth edition of Fuoriserie by setting up a stand entirely dedicated to MGBs, to be able to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the birth of this successful model. It may not be the most appreciated of the English manufacturer's production from an aesthetic point of view, but it is certainly the one that has contributed most to the diffusion of the octagon brand throughout the world, with its 512,000 examples built in the Abingdon factory in 18 years of uninterrupted production. Today, it represents the entry model into the magical universe of MG and, more generally, of vintage sports cars.

At the fair, due to space constraints, we exhibited only four cars (two roadsters and two GTs) to fully cover the four production series (MKI, MKII, GHN/GHD 5, and rubber bumper) built between 1962 and 1980. Aware of the boldness of this choice, which would have penalized the interest of the curious and neophytes, more attracted by the sinuous, aerodynamic lines of the MGAs and the retro charm of the T and pre-war series, we intended to provide a comprehensive and well-documented information service to enthusiasts.

Unfortunately, despite the commitment and goodwill shown by the Clubs and brand registries, some commendable attempts at innovation, and the presence of several pieces of significant historical and collectible value, this year too, due to a climate of economic recession strongly felt by the public and commercial exhibitors, the exhibition showed unmistakable signs of significant decline, with a low influx of visitors, especially on Saturday.

Beyond the event's success and appeal, the traditional Fuoriserie event was a great opportunity for members of the Lazio Regional Center to meet at the start of the rally season in a familiar, familiar setting, free from the stress of time and travel constraints. The event lasted an entire weekend, culminating in a Saturday evening social dinner in Fiumicino, a particularly popular event this year, well-received for its delicious menu (of course, seafood-based).
