Custom-built Show - Rome, April 16-17, 2011
The "Fuoriserie" event has been archived once again this year. On April 16th and 17th, the fifth edition of the largest classic vehicle show in Central and Southern Italy took place in Rome. The MG Car Club d'Italia participated for the fifth consecutive year with its own stand, which was personally set up, thanks in part to the manual labor provided by members of the Lazio Regional Center.
Despite the grandeur and modernity of the structure that hosts it and the commitment shown by the exhibitors, primarily by the classic car clubs that occupied one of the pavilions in which the show was divided, the general impression is that the event is failing to take off and that instead it drags on more and more wearily from year to year due to high prices, inadequate promotion and the lack of public affection.
In any case, our stand was once again one of the most admired for the beauty of the cars on display, two of which were chosen to participate in the Concours d'Elegance, carefully selected from the P and T series models as well as a splendid MGA 1500, testifying to the epochal turning point represented by the appearance of this car that revolutionized traditional aesthetic canons and still retains today, almost sixty years after its launch, lines of particular charm and extremely contemporary.
Participation in the show, which in itself constitutes a moment of authentic aggregation for all the Members of Rome, was further enriched by the presence of the Club's Board of Directors and numerous Regional Directors, who came to Rome for a work meeting, who joined the Friends of Lazio in a successful convivial dinner, held in a well-known restaurant in Fiumicino on Saturday evening, and in a festive snack organised inside our stand on Sunday morning.
The highlight of the social dinner was the surprise presentation of the birthday cake with which the members celebrated their President, who was visibly moved by the unexpected display of sympathy and affection.
Special thanks go to the members who contributed, in various capacities, to the stand setup, including, in alphabetical order: Paolo Bordini, Michele Corso, Carlo Fiani, Roberto Magni, Francesco Morisani, Vincenzo Muscio, Ludovico Reposi, Lucio Ronzio, and Piero Sassu, as well as to those who visited us during the two days of the fair and took part in the banquet.
For these and all the others, the next appointment is set for June for the 2011 edition of the national gathering “Trofeo Settecolli – De Amicitia” which I hope will be as successful as the previous ones.
