XXIII MG Winter Meeting

XXIII MG Winter Meeting

This year too, the team from the Veneto regional center, directed by Max Bottoli, was kissed by the sun.
On Friday, March 14, a large group of drivers, driving 50 MGs of all ages, gathered in Possagno where the English cars put on a fine show in front of Antonio Canova's house and the plaster cast gallery that houses many of the great neoclassical sculptor's works, which participants were able to admire.

The MGs then moved to Bassano del Grappa where, in the charming Piazza Libertà, a large crowd awaited them, intrigued by the roar that accompanied their arrival.
After the obligatory stop on the famous Alpini bridge, participants visited the equally renowned Poli grappa museum. Here, they were able to discover, without overdoing it, the secrets of distillation and the aromas and flavors of tradition. A rich buffet of local products, including the famous "pasta e fasoi" (pasta and beans) prepared according to the original recipe in the historic Trattoria Garibaldi, delighted every palate.
After dinner, the MG caravan took the challenging Valstagna road to Gallio at night. The hospitality and excellence of the Hotel Gaarten awaited them.
On Saturday, after a skill test, the MGs moved on to the Pennar dairy: a guided tour of the production facility, despite it still being early in the morning, and delicious tastings of typical cheeses, from Asiago to Mezzano and the many other varieties of the plateau.
The group then moved on for lunch at the Vezzena restaurant, on the Alpine pass of the same name (1,400 m). Clear roads but heavy snow on the sides made driving through this dreamlike landscape an experience to remember, as did the views of Folgaria and Serrada and the descent towards Pedescala. From there, the agile MGs, never tiring and always hungry for curves, tackled the winding bends of the challenging climb back to the plateau, before returning to Gallio, where Gaarten was waiting for everyone with a well-deserved mulled wine.
A beneficial immersion in the hotel's renowned wellness center served as a prelude to the inevitable tasting of typical cheeses, led by an expert who taught various recognition techniques, including pairing them with the most suitable wines.
A surprise at dinnertime: no one knew that the group was welcomed in the room reserved for the gala dinner by none other than the famous "Coro di Asiago." Made up of 25 professionals, they thrilled and delighted the audience for a good half hour, so much so that at the end of the performance, everyone stood and applauded, demanding an encore: endless and well-deserved applause.
The high quality of the dinner also contributed to making the evening unforgettable, so much so that, after the awards ceremony, no one wanted to go to sleep, so pleasant was the atmosphere and friendly climate that had been created.
On Sunday, after visiting the Keberlaba beekeeping farm and shopping in the center of Asiago, the group headed down the famous "Costo" road to Marostica, welcomed by ladies in period costume. A renowned restaurant, Castello Superiore, served an outdoor aperitif (beautiful sunshine and a timeless setting), followed by lunch, followed by farewells and the inevitable group photo, concluding an event that will remain in the hearts of all participants.
